Money or Campus Life?

16 August 2010 by Matthew Bonanno

A proposal by SDM and Pulse to convert the unused room opposite Agenda bookshop in Students’ House into an office for student organisations has been met with reluctance by KSU.

The room’s current contract expires at the end of the month, meaning that it would be free to be given to organisations.

The proposal has the support of the vast majority of organisations, with 26 votes in favour, 4 against and 3 abstentions in the Kummissjoni Politika u Socjali (KPS) meeting. However, KSU said that they are “in discussions” for the room to be rented out for commercial purposes, and therefore cannot guarantee that the room will be available for organisations.

As the number of student organisations grows, office space is becoming a contentious issue. As things stand, there are 29 organisations who applied for an office, however four will probably not have one due to a lack of space. Several offices in Students’ House are only big enough to accommodate one organisation, while some are bigger. Organisations are allocated offices depending on how they perform in the annual office report. Rankings are based on several criteria, such as how active an organisation is throughout the year.

I blame the student organisation for this; they should stop being babies each time KSU shut the door in their faces and instead expose such disgusting behaviour to the students they represent…

Their “parrini” are refusing to publish corrispondence from the EU about a multi-million project in Delimara. Knowing how much they adore Borg Olivier, Gonzi, etc. are you seriously expecting that KSU provides the information about the room?

HAHAHAHA…. KPS = Waste of time!

  2. Jonathan Mifsud Says:

I wouldn’t blame student organisations. First of all its not fault of any of them that the number of organisations increase. Secondly its KSU’s responsibility that it puts organisations as its priorities and make sure that they can be run adequately, since these are there to help support the student during their studies. If you think that organisations should just shut up and let KSU rule the world I wonder how you can be deemed a citizen if you’ll do the same with a government just let them rule our country the way they want. Constructive criticism is a must if a nation has to go forward – and to be constructive the comments passed must be listened to.
